A common problem in the speech of the hearing-impaired, persons with a cleft palate and those with speech development difficulties is the mastery of the proper coordination of laryngeal and articulatory gestures in the production of consonants such as unvoiced and voiced stops, glottal stops, and fricatives. Such coordination difficulties also can occur in accent modification, as in the speech training exercise in the excerpt below from My Fair Lady. To help in the evaluation and remediation of such difficulties, Glottal Enterprises is now offering a Consonant Visualization System that uses Glottal Enterprises’ proven aerodynamic measurement technology to give a simultaneous computer display of airflow and audio variables.
