For Speech Tutor users who are interested in tracking
only vowel Nasalance, and not Nasal Emission in consonants, Glottal
Enterprises can now supply a separator-style measurement handle
that is interchangeable with the dual-chamber oronasal mask. For
researchers interested in making comparisons, this comfortable,
hand-held separator offers a measurement solution comparable to
that of some competing systems for measuring Nasalance. A
main-screen selector on the latest version of Speech Tutor enables
the user to change instantly beween a mask and a partition. Owners
of older versions of Speech Tutor can upgrade their software free

Advantages of the dual-chamber mask
In addition to some small differences in performance, such as
a slightly better rejection of ambient sounds, a dual-chamber (Oronasal)
mask allows simultaneous measurement of Nasal Emission during consonants,
when used with an appropriate transducer system.
This comfortable hand-held partition handle offers
a measurement solution with a number of advantages compared to
competing systems for measuring Nasalance.
- The separator is not strapped to the head, as is the case with
competitive systems, and is easily taken on and off the face.
- The separator plates are easily changed by the clinician or
the user, for cleaning or to better fit the user’s face.
- Separator plates are supplied in three standard sizes with
the unit to accommodate almost all maxillary anatomies, and custom-made
plates can be supplied for unusual curvatures of the anterior
maxilla.
- A correct fit for the separator assures accurate and repeatable
nasalance readings with a minimum pressure on the upper lip.
- Multiple separator plates can be purchased and individualized
for each client. The plates can also be painted to identify
the user or to make them more attractive to young children
- Plates can be easily washed in a dishwasher or by hand, or
sterilized by standard methods for critical hospital environments.
- The larger separator plate and better customized fit result
in a greater and more consistent separation of oral and nasal
sounds
- Factory calibrated. No need for field calibration.
